How to get Admission in Pondicherry University

Admission in Pondicherry University UG courses requires passing 12th standard (+2) with a minimum of 50% marks in relevant subjects and qualifying CUET-2025 (UG) if applicable. On the other hand, Admission to every P.G. & P.G. Diploma Programmes of Pondicherry University (PU) for the academic year 2026-27 will be score-based in the CUET(PG) – 2026 entrance examinations organized by the National Testing Agency. Candidates must stand by the eligibility criteria prescribed in the Information Brochure of Pondicherry University.

Note: Admissions are strictly through CUET (UG) 2025. Candidates must apply via the NTA CUET portal and also register separately on the Pondicherry University admissions portal.

Admission is provisional and subject to verification of the prescribed documents. Students will be required to take a group health insurance for hospitalisation, etc., through the University.

How to take admission in Pondicherry University?

Check Eligibility

Undergraduate degrees require the requirement of completion of 10+2 or equivalent, while postgraduate degrees require the completion of an appropriate Bachelor’s degree and marks.  For a PhD, a Master's degree is required at the appropriate level, and programs may also require an entrance exam for admission.

Note:  Admissions are taken on the following reservation roster in the order of merit, as per the Government of India norms. The ranking of the candidates who have got the same marks will be decided on the criteria: 1. 12th standard or equivalent marks, 2. 10th standard or equivalent marks, 3. Age of the candidates (in days) 4. Candidates can visit the PU Admission Page and fill in the application form online only. For instance, an MBA requires a Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 50% marks. Integrated PG programs, such as the 5-year M.A. in Social and Economic Administration and Law (SEAL), necessitate a minimum of 50% in the qualifying 10+2 examination.

Fill in the Application Form

Correctly fill out the application form by providing your personal details, academic qualifications, course preference, and entrance exam details (if applicable). It is important that you fill out the form correctly because an incorrect detail may delay or reject your application.

It is advisable to fill out the form on a desktop/laptop. Avoid filling out the form using a mobile phone. Aspirants need to pay a one-time Application Fee (non-refundable). The online application process is completed after the payment of the Application fee. The candidate must pay the applicable fee through the authenticated Pondicherry University admission website/portal only. This application fee is not refundable; hence it is the candidate is advised to check whether he/she satisfy all eligibility criteria for the Program for which he/she is applying and have appeared in CUET(PG) - 2026 in the pertinent Test papers, satisfying the Program-Specific admissibility issued in the Information Brochure.

Uploading Documents

Upload all the required documents such as your passport-size photograph, signature, mark sheets, and category certificates (if applicable). Make sure that your scanned documents are clear and scanned copies meet the required specifications by your university.

Paying Application Fee

Pay the application fee online through credit/debit card/ net banking. Application fees may vary according to course or your category, and you should have proof of payment, as it is required for you to apply.

Appearing for the Entrance Exam

Please appear entrance exams if it is a requirement for your program to do so. or most UG and PG courses, admission is fundamentally based on the candidate's scores in the Common University Entrance Test (CUET), which is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). An admit card can be downloaded. Please ensure you carefully read all information regarding instructions for the exam.  For B.Tech. and M.Tech. programs, complementary entrance exams like JEE Main and GATE are also considered.

Attend the Counselling Session

Please ensure you attend the counselling session where students will submit original certificates. This ensures that eligibility is confirmed and serves as a final process of documenting seat allotment.

Pay the Course Fee

Candidates must pay the course fee within the specified deadline to confirm their admission. Once the fee is paid, your seat is officially secured, completing the admission process.

Important Guidelines and Dates: 

All SC/ST candidates who have passed the qualifying exam are eligible to apply for admission, regardless of the percentage of marks received in the qualifying exam, unless otherwise specified. Candidates will submit a certificate about their caste from a Revenue Officer not below the rank of Tahsildar at the time of admission. 

The CUET PG 2026 registration for admission to PG courses will begin in January 2026.

The CUET UG 2026 registration will begin in the first week of Mar 2026 for admission in UG courses.

The CAT 2025 exam for admission to MBA/PGDM courses will be held on 30th November 2025.

The XAT registration procedure 2026 is open for MBA/PGDM courses. The last date to register is Dec 5, 2025. Furthermore, the XAT 2026 exam will be held on January 4, 2026.
