Recognized as the Himachal Pradesh University Management Aptitude Test, HPU MAT 2026 is the gateway to the MBA programs at HPU Business School and its affiliate institutions located in and around Shimla. As a state-level entrance examination, HPU MAT caters to about 50 seats (15 subsidized and 35 non-subsidized) while targeting approximately 3000 students every year. HPU MAT is conducted in a traditional pen and paper format and consists of 200 multiple-choice questions that need to be answered in 2 hours. The examination is sectioned into 4 different parts. The second step in the admission process is a Group Discussion and a Personal Interview. HPU MAT evaluates the verbal, quantitative, reasoning, and awareness skills of MBA aspirants. After the exam, the GD/PI shortlist is made using a top 3 per seat score (based on the exam). Overall merit is a weighted average of application score, HPU MAT (objective MCQs), GD and PI. Located in Shimla, Solan (subject to change). Pursuing HPU MAT enables candidates to secure an MBA from one of the leading business schools in the state, and is also one of the most affordable programs in the country, with an annual fee of INR 50,000 and a solid ROI with placement packages ranging between INR 5-6 LPA with companies like HDFC and ICICI Bank, among others. HPU MAT is also beneficial for candidates and students of rural Shimla, as HPU Business School is situated in the rural region of the state and focuses its management programs on rural development. Close to home for the students, the school also has a reservation policy of 85% allocation of seats for local students and the other 15% for candidates from the rest of India. With respect to HPU MAT, this term, 2025, the exam was conducted on June 10, and results were posted on June 21, which indicated a possible result prediction for the MBA exams. Media sources confirmed that over 3000 applicants were registered.
For the 2026 HPU MAT exams, the application was to be submitted online between April and May 2026 on the official website admissions.hpushimla.in.

There will be no sectional cutoffs, and candidates are advised to aim for a score of 140 or over to get shortlisted in the exam.
In May 2026, candidates will be able to download their admit cards from nadmissions.hpushimla.in by logging in to their account. The admit card will contain their photo, the exam center, which will be in either Shimla or Solan, and exam instructions. Candidates must bring an ID, preferably Aadhaar, to the exam and arrive 30 minutes early.
For HPU MAT, the syllabus will be at the secondary education level. Under English, the exam will contain grammar, vocabulary, and comprehension.
