MGU (Kerala) runs its admissions via a Common Admission Test (CAT) for university-department postgraduate programs and via the Centralized Allotment Process (CAP) for UG/PG courses in affiliated colleges. To apply to Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU), students can apply online through the official website, depending on whether their program is merit-based or entrance-based.
Candidates applying for admission must follow the CUET Subject Mapping 2026 to select appropriate test subjects for their desired course. The CUET 2026 registration is expected to begin in March 2026, and exams will be conducted in May/June 2026. There is a difference between Mahatma Gandhi University (Kerala) and Mahatma Gandhi Central University (Motihari, Bihar).
Admission will be either through the Centralised Allotment Process (CAP), which should be for merit-based programs, or through the MGU Common Admission Test (MGU CAT) for entrance-based programs.
No, MGU does not handle admission for its university departments' PG programs via CUET; instead, it uses its own MGU CAT exam. However, for Mahatma Gandhi Central University (MGCU) (Bihar), admission is via CUET. What Is the Last Date for MGU Admission 2025?
For MGU's CAT 2025 admissions, online registration ended on June 2, 2025. For PG Programs, MGU kept applications open to expire June 2, 2025. Applications for UG/Other were trending to close by June.
Step 1: Verify eligibility & program type
If you are pursuing PG (MA, MSc, MEd, MBA, etc.) in university departments, you will need to have the required undergraduate degree, marks & subject eligibility. If you are pursuing UG and PG in affiliated colleges, then eligibility will depend on your +2 marks and the course-specific eligibility criteria (if applicable, check in CAP)
Step 2: Apply online through the official portals
For PG (non-MBA), you will need to apply through cat.mgu.ac.in, for MBA, you will need to apply in admission.mgu.ac.in (application portal). In the case of UG/CAP admissions, you will need to register for admission online through the CAP portal as the schedules come out.
Step 3: Appear for Entrance Test (If Required)
MGU CAT will be conducted (Check dates for June 2026 on the official website)
For MBA, it is also possible that some Departments will waive off the common test or use a specific criterion, in your case.
Step 4: Selection & Allotment
Depending on CAT scores, Academic Record, Interview / GD / Written Test (if required). If you are pursuing UG/PG in affiliated colleges, you will get admission through the normal CAP allotment. They will be considering +2 marks, options given, and reservation norms.
Step 5: Confirmation & Document Verification
After you check your allotment, you need to do the document verification, pay your fee, etc., to confirm your admission.
