GATE 2026, conducted by IIT Guwahati, officially starts from today, February 7, 2026. IIT Guwahati released the guidelines for the applicants to follow necessarily.
Candidates need to arrive at the exam centre 90 minutes before, as biometric authentication and document verification take time, and the authorities will not permit any candidate to enter the examination after the first 30 minutes following the exam start time. Only transparent water bottles are allowed at the exam centre.

To enter the GATE 2026 exam hall, applicants must carry all mandatory documents for verification. Students should dressedup in simple clothes with minimal accessories.
The guidelines are:
A printed hard copy of your GATE 2026 admit card on A4-size paper.
A valid photo ID that you used during registration in physical form, as a digital copy is not valid.
Two passport-size photographs same as on your admit card.
Dressing Rules:
Attire: Wear light, plain clothes and avoid large buttons, metal zippers, badges, or extra pockets.
Footwear: Choose open footwear such as sandals or flip-flops; do not wear shoes or covered footwear.
Accessories: Do not carry belts, watches, rings, bracelets, goggles, or heavy jewellery.
Headgear: Avoid caps, hats, and mufflers unless required for religious reasons, as these will undergo strict security checks.
You should not bring any prohibited items to the GATE 2026 exam centre, such as any electronic devices (mobile phones, smartwatches, calculators, Bluetooth devices, earphones and health bands) and any kind of bags, wallet, or paper bags. Any kind of mehendi and ink stain is objectionable.
The exam centre provides virtual scientific calculators and scribble pads for rough work, so there is no need for personal belongings, including a pencil box, etc. You need to write your name and registration number before returning pads to the invigilator.
