MP Engineering Incentive Scheme: Launches Hindi-Medium BTech in Civil Engineering

In a major push to break language barriers in technical education, Madhya Pradesh has officially launched a Hindi-medium BTech programme in civil engineering starting from the 2026–27 academic session, accompanied by an INR 2 lakh financial incentive for students who reach their final year.

The pioneering initiative has been introduced at the prestigious Shri G S Institute of Technology and Science (SGSITS) in Indore, a leading government-aided autonomous institute in central India. MP Engineering Incentive Scheme: Overcoming the Language Barrier

Aligned with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP), the programme is designed to make higher technical education fully accessible to students who completed their schooling in Hindi. 

The civil engineering department at SGSITS highlighted that many meritorious students from rural or regional-language backgrounds face severe academic stress when suddenly transitioning to English-taught technical courses, which historically leads to higher dropout rates.

To address this, a dedicated academic team spent four years meticulously translating AICTE-approved English technical textbooks into Hindi. Additionally, specialised workshops were conducted to train professors to deliver complex engineering lectures using adapted Hindi technical terminology.

Key Highlights & Financial Incentive

• Seat Capacity: The institute has allocated 30 seats for this specialized Hindi-medium civil engineering batch. Around 20 seats have already been filled for the current academic session.

• INR 2 Lakh Cash Reward: To motivate students and promote regional-language technical education, the state government will provide an INR 2 lakh incentive directly to enrolled students upon entering their final year.

• Dual-Language Balance: The curriculum will not eliminate English entirely. The institute will provide dual-language support to ensure students develop the essential English communication skills required to remain globally competitive during campus placements.

With this move, Madhya Pradesh strengthens its position as a pioneer in vernacular professional education, following its earlier successful rollout of Hindi-medium MBBS courses.
