The Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) is inviting applications for an internship 2026-27. 

The government internship program provides students and research researchers the opportunity to study the complete development process of India's National Waterways system through its different operational and administrative functions. 

Candidates can apply through the IWAI Website. A certificate is awarded only upon successful completion and submission of a final Report/Paper.

IWAI Internship Programme 2026: Vacancies

  • Vacancies & Duration: 25 positions (10 UG, 15 PG/Research)

  • Locations: Noida (HQ), Kolkata, Patna, Guwahati, Kochi, Varanasi, and Bhubaneswar.

  • Stipend: INR 10,000/month (UG) and INR 20,000/month (PG/Research), paid after completion.

  • Academic criteria: 75% in 12th (UG) or 60% in Graduation/PG (PG/Research).

  • Areas: Marine engineering, fairway development, logistics, IT, and administrative roles.

  • The duration of the internship is typically 1 to 3 months and can be extended to 6 months. Interns are required to use their own laptops as the IWAI provides only office space.

The Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) Internship provides students with a short-term research training program, which enables them to study the development and regulation of India's National Waterways system. 

Interns gain an understanding of the overall functioning of Inland Waterway Transport (IWT) in India, including infrastructure development and maintenance. Work can be conducted at the Headquarters in Noida or various Regional/Sub-Offices (Kolkata, Patna, Guwahati, Kochi), depending on the department's needs.
