IITs Break Engineering Mould: Institutes Introduce Free Foreign Language Courses

 In a major shift toward multidisciplinary education, the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are expanding their horizons beyond traditional engineering by introducing comprehensive foreign language programmes. 

Aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, these courses aim to equip India’s top technical minds and the general public with global communication skills to match their technical expertise.

Leading campuses, including IIT Kanpur, IIT Madras, IIT Delhi, and IIT Kharagpur, now offer structured curricula in global languages like German, Japanese, French, Spanish, Mandarin, Korean, Russian, and Sanskrit.

To democratise education, the IITs have made these language modules available nationwide through digital learning portals like NPTEL and SWAYAM. The official links are:
