Applications for the IIT Madras Summer Fellowship Programme 2026 are now open from February 2, 2026. This two-month research internship helps students from engineering, management, science, and humanities build an interest in academic research.

Selected candidates will receive a monthly stipend of Rs.15,000 for the two months (May 18 – July 17, 2026). To apply for this fellowship program, students can directly apply through the IIT Madras Summer Fellowship Registration Portal.  The last date to submit the application is March 2, 2026, by 5:00 PM IST. 

The IIT Madras Summer Fellowship Programme 2026 is exclusively open for currently enrolled students at the institute. Experienced professionals are not eligible, as the program is designed to foster research interest among students before they graduate. 

Academic Eligibility To Apply for the IITM Fellowship 2026

The program is open only to non-IIT students with an outstanding academic record: 

  • Undergraduate Students: At present, in the 3rd year of a BE, BTech, or BSc (Engineering) program, or a 3-year BSc (Physics, Chemistry, or Mathematics).

  • Postgraduate Students: Currently in the 1st year of an MSc, MA, or MBA.

  • Integrated/Dual Degree Students: Currently in the 3rd or 4th year of their program.

The application process requires candidates to pay a non-refundable fee of Rs. 100 through online payment methods, which include UPI, net banking, and debit or credit cards.

Steps Guide To Apply

The program application process can be completed by following these online steps. 

  • Register: Create your profile on the official portal using your email ID. 

  • Upload Documents: The applicant must provide PDF or JPEG soft copies of their Bonafide Certificate and consolidated mark sheets from Class 10 onwards, Aadhaar card, and a recent passport-size photo. 

The online form must be completed and submitted before the deadline. The process is entirely digital, as there is no need to submit documents physically. 

If any applicant has university ranks, seminars, design contests, or digital projects, they can submit these as well to strengthen their candidature.

Yes. An online MSc in Data Science is valid if the university is UGC-approved. Such degrees are accepted for private jobs, higher studies, and skill-based roles.
Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree from a recognised university. Most universities prefer students with Mathematics, Statistics, or Computer background, with at least 50% marks.
The total fee usually ranges between ₹1.2 lakh to ₹3 lakh, depending on the university and facilities offered.
