About the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras):
The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) is a public technical university located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. As one of the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT), it is recognized as an institute of national importance and has consistently been ranked as one of the most prestigious universities in India. Founded in 1959 with technical and financial assistance from the former West German government, it was the third IIT established by the Indian government. IIT Madras has been ranked as the best engineering institute in India by the National Institutional Ranking Framework of the Ministry of Education since its inception in 2016.
