Schools were closed across Delhi-NCR today after the authorities implemented Stage IV of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) due to dangerous levels of air pollution. It was taken as the air quality continued to be in the “severe” category, with young children and adults at serious health risk.
The school closure is a precautionary measure to minimise the exposure of students to the toxic air. The state government and the local government can prohibit in-person classes under GRAP-IV.
The departments of education have instructed schools to:
Pause Campus Instruction for now
Hold classes online if possible
Refrain from outdoor activities and sports games
Districts Impacted by School Closure
Delhi
Noida
Ghaziabad
Gurugram
Faridabad
Government and private schools have been directed to follow the advisory till further orders.
Parents are encouraged to:
Regularly check official school notifications
Keep track of state education department updates
Make sure the children stay home, and they follow the health advice
Students should be ready to be taught online and with assignments at home while schools are closed.
Officials have said the opening of schools is subject to daily assessments of the quality of the air. If air quality improves and is better than severe, physical classes can be conducted with restrictions. There will be more details released through official government channels.
