The National Testing Agency (NTA) is expected to release the official notification for the UGC NET December 2026 cycle in the first week of October 2026. Following the successful conclusion of the June session on July 5, 2026, lakhs of candidates nationwide are now preparing for the upcoming winter edition of the University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test.

The national-level exam determines eligibility for 'Assistant Professor' and the award of 'Junior Research Fellowship (JRF)' in Indian universities and colleges.

UGC NET December 2026 Expected Schedule

The online registration window will open alongside the release of the information bulletin on the official portal.

• UGC NET Exam Dates: December 2026 to January 2027 

Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme

The UGC NET December 2026 session will follow the standard Computer-Based Test (CBT) format.

• Structure: Two papers held in a single 3-hour (180 minutes) session with no break.

• Paper 1: 50 questions (100 marks) testing teaching and research aptitude.

• Paper 2: 100 questions (200 marks) based on the candidate's chosen post-graduation subject.

• Negative Marking: There is no negative marking for incorrect answers.
