The National Medical Commission (NMC) has released public notices regarding the upcoming Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) and the registration process for Indian students who are studying abroad. This public notice was released on March 4, 2026. The main point of the notice is that medical degrees earned through online mode are ineligible for registration in India.

The notice is needed due to the COVID-19 online shift in education and the Ukraine-Russia conflict. The official link to get more details is nmc.org.in.

Correction for Online Medical Education

  • Physical Practice is mandatory: Students who attended online classes must undergo an equivalent period of on-site (CRMI internship), physical clinical training at their parent foreign university.

  • Certification: Candidates must provide a "Compensation Certificate" authenticated by the relevant Indian Embassy, proving the duration and subjects of the offline training.

Compulsory Rotating Medical Internship (CRMI) is a mandatory period of hands-on clinical training in an NMC-approved hospital that a candidate must complete after passing the FMGE.

FMGE Internship and Stipend Details

The Commission has clarified the Compulsory Rotating Medical Internship (CRMI) structure for different batches:

  • Pre Nov 2021 Batches: May qualify for a one-year internship in India.

  • Post Nov 2021 Batches: Must strictly follow the FMGL Regulations 2021, requiring a 54-month course, a 12-month internship abroad, and a subsequent 12-month Compulsory Rotating Medical Internship (CRMI) in India.

  • Stipends: A directive issued earlier this month confirms that all FMG interns are entitled to stipends equal to those of Indian medical graduates in their respective states.

Registration for the Eligibility Certificate

The NMC opened the online application portal for the Eligibility Certificate (EC) on March 2, 2026.

  • Deadline: Candidates must secure their EC before the FMGE June 2026 registration window closes.

  • Requirement: Without a valid EC, candidates will be barred from appearing in the screening test, regardless of their degree status.

The portal for FMGE June 2026 Eligibility Certificates opened on March 2, 2026, and will remain active until March 31, 2026.
