The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) commenced the registration process for NEET UG 2026 Round 1 counselling today, August 5, 2026. Eligible candidates can now log in to the official portal to secure admissions for MBBS, BDS, and BSc Nursing seats nationwide.

The registration window will remain open until August 12, 2026, up to 3:00 PM IST.

Major Structural Policy Reforms Introduced

To improve candidate convenience and eliminate unnecessary travel, the MCC has introduced three landmark changes to the online allocation system this year.

  • Mandatory Freeze or Float: Candidates allocated a seat must actively choose to 'Freeze' (accept and exit) or 'Float' (accept but seek a better option).

  • Zero-Travel Upgrade Verification: Floating candidates no longer need to physically visit colleges between rounds. Document verification for upgrades is now handled entirely online via the MCC portal.

  • Upgradation Cap: The option to upgrade seats will strictly conclude at the end of Round 3 to prevent semester delays.

Crucial Timelines for Round 1

  • Registration & Fee Payment: August 5-August 12, 2026 (until 3:00 PM)

  • Choice Filling & Locking: August 6 -August 13, 2026 (Locking starts August 12)
