National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is designed in a way to ensure equitable and inclusive quality education and set lifelong learning opportunities for all by 2030. After 5 years of implementation, there are visible gains, and the implementation in facilitating students comes from the backward background of society, including the special needs students.

The NEP 2020 implemented a focus on  Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN), Digital and Technological Integration, Enhanced Inclusivity and Enrolment, and Increased Flexibility in Higher Education.

The NEP 2020 implementation has fostered a positive impact on the Indian education system.

The positive gains of Inclusive Education in NEP 2020 are:

  • Emphasis on Equity and Quality Education for all

  • Promotes the Universal Design for Learning (UDL)

  • Improves Teacher Training for increasing empathy for the disabled or special students

  • Secures legal and human rights for students.

The Losses or challenges in implementing NEP 2020 for Inclusive Education:

  • Lack of Infrastructure and Resources for the disabled and special students

  • Lack of well-trained teachers, unable to give support to special needs students.

  • Difficulty in implementing methods  in rural area schools

  • Low admission rate for marginalized groups

After 5 years of NEP 2020 implementation, significant changes have happened positively; however, more needs to be done. But surely, the development of infrastructure, awareness of citizens, and trained teachers will change the scenario in the near future.
