The Birla Institute of Technology and Science BITS Pilani established a tuition-blind admissions system that applies to the top 500 BITSAT rankers and allows all qualified students to apply regardless of their financial status.
The official press release states that students with family incomes below Rs 20 lakh will receive full tuition coverage for their four-year program, which requires them to maintain a CGPA of 7.5. The decision aims to make admissions more inclusive and merit-driven across its campuses.
The new initiative provides automatic 100% tuition fee waivers to BITSAT top 500 rankers whose family income falls below Rs 20 lakh per year.
The financial support process does not allow students to apply for scholarships after admission. The admission offer itself includes financial support. Students only need to maintain a minimum CGPA of 7.5 during their course to continue receiving the benefit.
Group Vice Chancellor Prof V Ramgopal Rao stated the goal is clear- “If you have the talent, money should not come in the way.” He stated that the institute intends to develop this model further throughout the upcoming years.
