Jadavpur University will not admit engineering diploma holders in the second year of its B.Tech programs this year.
A senior university official stated on Tuesday that this decision is because the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board has delayed conducting the Joint Entrance Lateral Entry Test (JELET).
The JELET is the exam used for entry into the third semester of bachelor's degree programs in engineering, technology, and pharmacy.
A Jadavpur University official stated that students with a BSc and an engineering diploma are usually admitted to engineering courses through the Joint Entrance Examination for Lateral Entry (JELET). The Higher Education Department has not responded and the exam which is typically held in October was postponed.
The university is unable to accept diploma students who pass JELET this year due to the JELET delay and the beginning of first-year BTech classes.
According to the official, there is no way to postpone the second-year B.Tech exams for students. Those who were admitted in the first year through the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) which is set for next week.
He added that the start of first-year classes was already delayed due to issues with the OBC quota. Further delaying second-year admissions would seriously disrupt the academic schedule.
The results of the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) were released in August, three months later than expected due to a dispute over the reservation policies for the Other Backwards Classes (OBC).
