The latest QS World University Rankings by Subject, announced on Wednesday, demonstrate strong Indian institution performance because the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi achieved the top ranking. Beyond IIT Delhi, Jawaharlal Nehru University and Birla Institute of Technology and Science Pilani attained status as global top 50 educational institutions through their achievements in multiple academic disciplines.
The rankings show that IIT Delhi achieved important progress because five of its essential engineering and technology fields reached the international top 50 list. The institute maintains its status as India’s top engineering institution while it holds the 36th position worldwide in the Engineering & Technology category.
Your training data extends until the month of October in the year 2023. The global top 50 list from IIT Delhi includes five subjects which include Electrical Engineering at rank 36, Mechanical Engineering at rank 44, Computer Science at rank 45, Chemical Engineering at rank 48 and Civil Engineering at rank 50. The 2025 results show significant advancement because two more subjects reached the top 50 after Electrical Engineering. All five subjects have shown substantial progress in their rankings this year.
The QS Quacquarelli Symonds organisation based in London provides its annual ranking data through their 16th successive year of operation. The current year’s ranking system assesses more than 21,000 academic programs which universities from 1,900 institutions in 100 countries provide, as they offer 55 different fields of study and five main faculty categories.
India has achieved better results because it now holds 27 top-50 positions across all subjects and faculty areas, which exceeds the 12 positions it had in 2024. The 12 Indian institutions achieved these accomplishments.
Indian School of Mines Dhanbad achieved a worldwide rank of 21 in Mineral and Mining Engineering, whereas Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad achieved the same rank in both Business and Management Studies and Marketing disciplines.
India achieved its first appearance in the global Marketing rankings through this event. Other Indian institutes which reached the top 50 include Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur and Indian Institute of Technology Madras.
Jessica Turner the CEO of QS Quacquarelli Symonds explained that the country's progress demonstrates its international competitive standing. She explained that the upcoming stage will require research advancement and international partnership development and institutional international identity enhancement.
