Students are leaving the exam centres as the second shift of the GATE 2026 CSE exam is coming to an end. The students who first responded to the test said that it was moderate to difficult.
Most of the questions focused on the understanding of the concepts and required calculations. Some questions were lengthy and complex, so it took a lot of consideration to answer them. The statement is based on questions and MSQs were generally of moderate difficulty.
Students felt that the overall difficulty level of the paper was moderate. The General Aptitude section was easy to moderate and included a few direct questions.
Students reported that the CSE Shift 2 paper was a little bit easier than the first shift.

Shift 1 (Morning) was generally moderate to tough, with some concept-based and tricky questions, especially in algorithms and core CS areas.
Shift 2 (Afternoon) was also moderate to difficult, but many found it slightly easier than Shift 1.
