Students should be aware that if they receive a scholarship from the Institute, they are not permitted to accept any other scholarships from the government, semi-government organisations, or private groups.
IITs provide scholarships to students who excel academically or who require financial assistance.
Attention students: If you receive a scholarship from the Institute, you are not allowed to accept any other scholarships from the government, semi-government, or private organisations. If you have already received or applied for another scholarship, you must state this when you apply.
IIT Bombay's Merit-cum-Means (MCM) Scholarship is designed to support undergrad students who do well in their studies and require financial aid. According to the academic office, around 25% of the accepted undergraduate class can get this scholarship.
This scholarship helps students who need financial aid by waiving tuition and providing a monthly allowance if they meet the academic and income requirements.
To be eligible for the MCM Scholarship, your family's income has to be under a certain amount, and you need to be doing well in your studies. They usually look at your JEE rank or how you're doing in school. To keep getting the scholarship, you need to keep a grade point average of at least 6.0 and not have any failed courses. The Scholarship Committee can also make exceptions if needed.
If your family earns up to ?1 lakh per year, you'll get your full tuition waived and an additional ?40,000 each year. Female students in this group also get an extra ?10,000 as part of the Women Merit Scholarship.
For families earning between ?1 lakh and ?3 lakhs, you'll get your full tuition waived plus ?30,000 annually. Female students in this range get an extra ?10,000 Women Merit Scholarship.
If your family earns between ?3 lakhs and ?5 lakhs, you'll get your full tuition waived and ?20,000 per year. Female students in this group also get an added ?10,000 Women Merit Scholarship.
IIT Bombay provides free meals to undergraduate students who are SC or ST. This means basic mess charges are removed, allowing students to eat at no cost. The package also includes tuition fee waiver, free hostel rent, and ?500 per month.
These benefits are for students in BTech, BS, BDes, and Dual Degree (BTech + MTech) programs. Dual degree students usually only get the free meals for the first four years. The Women Merit Scholarship is also available for female students in undergraduate programs.
