AKTU Introduces Minor Course in Gaming and Animation for BTech Students

Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) has introduced a minor course in gaming and animation for its BTech students. The proposed minor will carry 18 credits and has been designed to align with emerging industry needs in the digital content ecosystem. 

The AKTU official stated that the project will bring gaming and animation into engineering education while teaching youth about fields that include gaming and animation and comics. And visual effects or broadcasting which are currently experiencing fast growth.

The move could help create a structured talent pipeline and strengthen skill-based education in technical institutions. The official explained that students who love gaming can turn their passion into a career through this program. 

The university will soon establish a committee that will complete the minor course framework and the curriculum and the implementation plan. The minor course grants 1 credit because students must complete 30 hours of laboratory work which makes practical work the main course focus according to AKTU vice-chancellor Prof JP Pandey.

The degree program will prepare students to master programming and game engine architecture and 3D animation and interactive design according to him.

The VC said graduates could work as game developers, gameplay programmers, game designers, 3D artists and animators.

The Indian gaming industry was expanding rapidly, with the AVGC-XR (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comic) sector projected to grow significantly. 

The global gaming industry provides opportunities for professionals to work in international studios or to perform remote work for foreign companies.
