About India Institute of Technology.
Indian Institute of Technology is the oldest institute in India. It was founded in 1847 in the time period of British India as a technical University, by Lieutenant Governor, James Thomason.
It is a college of Civil Engineering located in Roorkee, Uttarakhand, India. The motive to establish IIT Roorkee is to help engineers and surveyors work in the construction of Ganga Fosse.
In 1854, Proby Cautley (who is the Projector and designer of Fosse) renamed it Thomason College of Civil Engineering after James Thomason’s death and Completion of Ganga Fosse. In 1949 It was again renamed and called as University of Roorkee. and Lastly, it was renamed the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Roorkee) in 2001.
Featuring 22 academic departments with an emphasis on scientific and technological education and research, the institution offers Engineering, Applied Sciences, Humanities & Social Sciences, as well as Management programs.

IIT Roorkee Campus
Over 365 acres (1,480,000 m2) of land are devoted to the main campus in Roorkee. It has a separate campus of 25 acres (100,000 m2) in Saharanpur.
Most students live in hostels and IIT Roorkee has 16 hostels, Of which 2 are occupied by girls named Kasturba and Sarojini. And Vigyan Kunj, a new coed hostel, recently opened on campus. And there are 9 hostels for Married Students, Doctoral Students, and Foreign Students and each hostel has its own mess.
Cultural Festivals For Students.
Every year they conduct four fests for students. Like Cognizance (Technical Festival), Thomso (Cultural Festival), Sangram (Sports Festival), and National Social Summit (Social Festival).
Scholarships and Prizes.
There are three types of Scholarships and Awards.

Non-Convocation Awards/Scholarships: Students from various classes are given these awards and scholarships. Donors usually determine the criteria for these awards.

Convocation Awards/Scholarships: Graduate students are given these awards and scholarships during convocation ceremonies. Academic performance is considered for some awards, but donors propose different criteria for others.

Merit-cum-Means Scholarships: Students who are commendable but financially constrained are given MCM Scholarships.
