UPSC has released the ESE Mains 2026 exam date. Stage II (Written Examination) of the Engineering Services Examination (ESE) Main will be held on 21st June 2026. Candidates who qualified for the preliminary examination will have two discipline-specific papers on the same day but separate shifts.
The Mains exam will be conducted in offline (Descriptive) mode. The core engineering knowledge will be across the Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics and Telecommunication fields. The written stage will have a total of 300 marks for each paper. So this stage is the most important to get shortlisted for the interview round. Candidates are requested to go through the exam pattern and start their preparation for the exam as per the schedule from UPSC.
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) would hold the Engineering Services (ESE) Mains 2026 offline with two descriptive papers on one day.

ESE Mains is held for a total of 600 marks, i.e. two papers (3 hours duration each) with 300 marks each. The papers are intended to evaluate the conceptual clarity, analytical ability and problem-solving skills of the candidates with the help of descriptive solutions.
The following applicants for the next stage of the selection process must take both Paper I and Paper II.
