At the recent 589th meeting, the UGC granted students the opportunity to pursue a dual degree in a challenging learning environment. It allows students to pursue two degrees, enabling them to excel in their academic tracks efficiently. Now the students can pursue two regular and offline courses together, either regular and online learning, and regular and distance learning.
The University Grant Commission has shown concern about no clashes between the schedules of any course. It has also clarified about adhering to the ODL (online and distance) course requirements. Students learning at undergraduate and postgraduate levels can easily pursue graduation and post-graduation simultaneously and can gain career benefits with it.
However, the students pursuing PhD courses can still pursue learning in a single subject as the post-doctoral level of study requires a unique perspective of the course. So post-doctoral students must adhere to their single course, and keep working on their curriculum to optimise their studies.
Note: The University Grant Commission will give recognition to the degrees that are accredited by the institution. So, the institutions need to check if they are studying at UGC-qualified Universities. This is important to check to know if the course is adding value to their qualification.
Students who pursued dual degrees together in the past will also benefit from this notification, as their degrees will be verified with the new notification of the institution.
