UGC Directs Universities to Integrate SWAYAM MOOCs into Academic Curriculum of July 2026. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has directed Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to integrate approved SWAYAM Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) into the July 2026 semester. The initiative aims to integrate online learning into regular academic programmes and allow students to earn academic credits through SWAYAM.

According to an official letter issued by UGC Secretary Prof. Shyama Rath, universities have been instructed to identify approved SWAYAM courses, map them to their existing curricula, and ensure that students complete their registrations before the prescribed deadlines.

Key Instructions Issued by UGC

• Integrate approved SWAYAM MOOCs into regular degree programmes.

• Align SWAYAM courses with the existing university curriculum and syllabus.

• Ensure eligible students register before the official deadlines.

• Treat MOOCs as part of academic programmes instead of standalone online courses.

• Implement a transparent mechanism for academic credit transfer.

Approved SWAYAM Course Providers

The Ministry of Education has approved a fresh list of SWAYAM courses developed by national coordinators, including:

• University Grants Commission (UGC)

• Consortium for Educational Communication (CEC)

• National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL)

• Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)

• Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB)

• All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE)

• National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research (NITTTR)

• Institutions of National Importance (INIs)

Additional Directions for Universities

The UGC has also instructed universities to:

• Share the approved SWAYAM course list with deans, heads of departments, and SWAYAM University Nodal Officers.

• Conduct meetings of SWAYAM Advisory Committees to identify suitable courses for each programme.

• Finalise the process for credit transfer.

• Display the approved course list on official university websites and social media platforms.

• Inform students about available courses well before the registration deadline.

The latest directive is expected to strengthen the integration of digital learning into higher education and encourage greater adoption of SWAYAM courses as part of university degree programmes.
