UGC Announces National Scholarship for PG Students: 10,000 to Get Monthly Stipend

The national scholarship for postgraduate studies offers a monthly stipend of Rs 15,000 for ten months each year.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has released the merit list for the National Scholarship for postgraduate students for the academic year 2024-25. The list is out for PG students belonging to streams such as humanities, social sciences, and science.

A total of 10,000 PG students belonging to 5,000 humanities and social science streams and 5,000 science streams have been included in the preliminary list. The list included details like application number, name, institute name, and course

National Scholarship for post-graduate studies: This involves a scholarship amount of Rs 15,000 per month for 10 months in a year. This scholarship is also given to students to undertake post-graduate studies in India to acquire a post-graduate degree. This is done under ‘National Scholarship for Post Graduate Studies.

Students can apply for the scholarship till November 15, 2025, and the institute verification window will remain open till November 30. The national scholarship form is open at scholarships.gov.in

National Scholarship Eligibility Conditions

This scholarship is open to students planning to undertake their first PG degrees. Students who have already attained PG degrees are not eligible to apply.

Students who have obtained seats in PG Degree programs in the eligible university or colleges can apply.

“In the case of integrated programs, the scholarship will be awarded only for the PG component. Only those students shall be eligible to apply under these schemes who have not attained the age of 30 years as on the date of admission in the first semester/year of PG programs,” as per the notification.

It is pertinent to note that only regular PG students can qualify for the scholarship. Students pursuing open or private learning programs cannot apply for the scholarship.

As per the official announcement, the slots allotted to women students will first be filled up in the case of single, twin, or fraternal girl children regardless of their performance in the UG exam. The rest slots will be filled based on merit.
