The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) released the much-awaited SSC CGL 2026 Notification on May 21, 2026, marking the start of one of the largest public sector recruitment drives of the year. The Commission has announced approximately 12,256 tentative vacancies for various prestigious Group B and Group C posts across central government ministries, departments, and offices. Eligible graduates can submit their applications online through the official portal at ssc.gov.in.
According to the official release, the online registration link is now active. Aspiring candidates must keep track of the following crucial deadlines:
Application Window: May 21, 2026, to June 22, 2026 (up to 11:00 PM)
Fee Payment Deadline: June 23, 2026 (up to 11:00 PM)
Correction Window: June 29, 2026, to July 1, 2026
Tier-I Exam (CBT): Tentatively scheduled for August-September 2026
Tier-II Exam (CBT): Tentatively scheduled for December 2026
Reports from the official PDF highlight significant operational changes for the 2026 cycle that candidates need to prepare for:
Introduction of Sectional Timings: For the first time, strict sectional time limits will be enforced in both Tier-I and Tier-II stages. In Tier I, candidates will be allotted exactly 15 minutes per section.
Mandatory Live Photo Capture: Traditional passport photo uploads have been scrapped. Candidates must now capture a live photograph using a smartphone or webcam during the registration process.
Tier-II Changes: Paper 3 has been officially reintroduced for the specific selection of Assistant Audit Officers (AAO) and Assistant Accounts Officers.
Educational Qualifications: Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s Degree from a recognised university by the specified cut-off date.
Age Limits: The general age bracket stands between 18 and 32 years as of August 1, 2026, with age relaxations applicable to reserved categories as per government norms.
Application Fee: A standard fee of INR 100 is required. However, women candidates, SC, ST, PwBD, and Ex-Servicemen are entirely exempted from payment.
