The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) invites applications for its Summer Internship Programme 2026. Internships implement practical training in the field applicable to various disciplines based on your study background in infrastructure development.

The duration of the internship will be 2 months. The shortlisted candidates will be posted at NHAI field offices & headquarters pan-India. Interns will work under senior officials and teams on projects during the programme. They will be trained on all aspects of planning, execution & management of national highway projects.
This internship is aimed at undergraduate and postgraduate students of civil engineering. Students from other streams can apply too. They are: computer science, information technology, electronics, data science, finance, law, management, commerce and mass communication.
Civil engineering students will be involved in highway design, traffic engineering, and construction. Students from other disciplines will provide support in analytics, information technology systems, toll operations, legal services, and project management.
The selected applicants will be paid an honorarium of Rs 20,000 per month. They will be given a certificate upon successful completion of the training. The program will combine on-site and classroom learning. It will enable students to access infrastructure projects through the student-and-project-type system and gain exposure to industry practices.
Under this scheme, NHAI proposes to engage approximately 500 interns annually. The internship program is being launched in association with the Department of Higher Education and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). Among other objectives, the initiative aims to enhance students’ technical and interpersonal skills.
