IIT Hyderabad Visual Design Programs: Expands Pathways for CEED Aspirants

In a major move to bridge the gap between academic innovation and rapid digital transformation, the Department of Design at IIT Hyderabad has announced a multifaceted roadmap for its highly sought-after Visual Design disciplines. 

With the industry evolving due to multi-modal UI/UX challenges and AI disruption, the institute is opening doors through both traditional Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED) scores and competitive self-sponsored tracks that bypass the mandatory entrance exam requirement. 

IIT Hyderabad Visual Design Programs List:

1. The Flagship 2-Year Regular M.Des in Visual Design

For students targeting full-time postgraduate studies, the core Master of Design (M.Des) in Visual Design offers a deep dive into graphic design, typography, moving images, animation, film design, and visual branding. 

• Ministry of Education (MoE) Seats: Funded seats require a valid CEED Exam score followed by an institutional interview.

• Self-Sponsored Category: For candidates without a CEED score, IIT Hyderabad conducts a direct entrance framework consisting of an online Design Aptitude Test (DAT), digital portfolio screening, and a personal interview round. Both sets of students receive full access to regular institute placement facilities. 

2. M.Des by Practice: The Hybrid Alternative for Working Professionals

Targeted at active professionals and corporate entrepreneurs, the online/hybrid M.Des by Practice allows students to complete live evening classes (5:00 PM to 8:00 PM) while keeping their full-time jobs. Candidates execute corporate-led capstone initiatives under academic guidance, reporting to the physical campus only for final semester-end reviews.  

3. Executive Edge: The 6-Month VDUX Certificate Program

To accommodate the massive surge in tech-industry demand for design talent, the department continues its successful execution of the PG Level Advanced Certificate Program in Visual Design and User Experience (VDUX) in collaboration with TalentSprint.  

This intensive 6-month digital boot camp targets UI/UX professionals, animators, and tech consultants. The modular curriculum integrates emerging domains like AI for Designers and AR/VR technologies, blending online weekend masterclasses with an immersive 2-day residency at the Design Innovation Centre (DIC) on the IIT Hyderabad campus.
