The IIT Delhi is ready to introduce a new B.Tech program for the upcoming academic session 2026-2028. The course is kept in the B.Tech Category, conducted for 4 years. The Department of Design authoritatively offers the course and aims to blend engineering precision with creative design thinking to solve complex socio-technical challenges. Candidates need to pass two national-level exams to take admission in B.Tech in Design:
Entrance Exams: The basis for admission is JEE (Advanced) ranks, but candidates also have to pass UCEED (Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design).
Academic Requirements: Applicants must have finished Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) in 2024 or 2025.
Seat Intake: The first batch of the program will have an intake of only 20 students.
The entire length of the program is four years, during which students are required to earn approximately 150 credits, 50% on the core design and the remaining part through interdisciplinary electives.
The curriculum is designed for the students to acquire skills in the areas of design fundamentals, prototyping, research methods, and product design while practicing through hands-on, studio-based, and collaborative learning a lot.
The Engineering-Design graduates are ready for the leadership positions in the following sectors:
Industry: Positions in product design, UX/UI, and automotive design at tech giants like Google, Apple, and Tesla.
Emerging Fields: Robotics & AI interaction design, sustainable design, and gaming design.
Research & Entrepreneurship: They may choose to work in academia or start a design-centered business.
