CBSE has issued a reminder to all its affiliated schools that Class 10 and 12 practical exams, internal assessment and project work for board exams 2026. The board has directed the schools to maintain strict rules with the instructions so that the process of examination runs smoothly.
CBSE has again highlighted the importance of practical exams in the overall result. Schools are being urged, students and parents advised, to take these with the same seriousness as the paper ones, as mistakes or delays could cause problems down the line.
As per CBSE, practicals exams, project work and internal assessments for Class 10 and Class 12 are to be held from 1st January to 14th February. All work related to practical evaluations is to be completed during this time.
Schools have been told to upload practical marks on the day the exam is taken. They also said that once the marks are uploaded, there will be no changes. For this reason, CBSE recommended that schools be extremely careful when entering marks.
Schools should ensure they have sufficient practical answer books well in advance of the start of the examinations. In the case of any shortage, the same shall be immediately brought to the notice of the concerned regional office of the CBSE.
CBSE has also instructed schools to ensure the availability of science labs. The required infrastructure and materials should be prepared early so the students don’t have to face problems while taking the exam.
External examiners appointed by the CBSE will conduct the practical examination for class 12. The school cannot appoint their examiners. The official circular states that in case of the use of unauthorized examiner, the board could also cancel the practical exam.
Schools have been advised to make early contact with external examiners to avoid last-minute confusion or delay.
CBSE has directed the schools to create an appropriate environment for the differently-abled students. These candidates should be given every possible assistance to help them to take their practical examinations in a comfortable and non-stressful environment.
Students have been asked to remain in regular contact with their schools, finish their practical files and projects within the stipulated time, and appear for examinations as per schedule.
The CBSE has also made it clear that practical exams hold the same weightage as theory papers. For every student appearing for the 2026 board exams, good preparation and following the rules are a must.
