The Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) is one of the oldest and most reputed veterinary institutes. It is located in Izatnagar, Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. It was started in 1889 as the Imperial Bacteriological Laboratory. 

And later became a Deemed University under the University Grants Commission (UGC).  It works under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and is sometimes called ICAR IVRI.

The college has grown over the years with regional campuses at Bengaluru, Mukteshwar, Palampur, Pune, Srinagar, and Kolkata. This indicates its large standing in veterinary research across all of India.  

The institute is also recognised for creating important vaccines and diagnostics for economically important animal diseases. IVRI holds a prominent place in India's veterinary education and research landscape as a Central Government veterinary institute. 

IVRI Izatnagar conducts various academic courses, such as BVSc & AH, MVSc, PhD, and diploma courses.

IVRI Courses 

Indian Veterinary Research Institute has a variety of academic courses in veterinary and animal sciences. The institution offers undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, and diploma courses to build knowledge and research capability in students.

At the undergraduate level, it has the BVSc & AH (Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry) course. Through this course, students learn about animal management, health, and treatment. It is among the best IVRI courses for students who want to pursue a career as a veterinarian.

IVRI also provides postgraduate courses under the degree of Master of Veterinary Science (MVSc) with varying specialisations like Veterinary Microbiology, Animal Nutrition, Pathology, Pharmacology, and Livestock Production Management. Postgraduate education and research in animal and disease control are the main areas of IVRI MVSc courses.

PhD courses are also provided by the institute for students who are ready to pursue research in veterinary science. 

IVRI Eligibility Criteria 

The eligibility criteria of IVRI are different for various courses. For the BVSc undergraduate course, the candidates should have passed 10+2 in Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Biotechnology, and English. You need at least 50% marks (40% for reserved category candidates). 

The candidates should also have valid NEET scores, as admission is done on the basis of this national entrance exam. And also should be above 17 years of age as on December 31 of the year of taking admission. 

For postgraduate, the candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Science with 60% marks (55% for SC/ST or sponsored candidates). A Master's degree in the concerned discipline is needed for admission to PhD courses. 

The IVRI accepts students from all over India but reserves seats for SC, ST, OBC, and physically challenged candidates.

IVRI Fee Structure 

IVRI's fee structure has been planned in such a way as to serve multiple academic and administrative expenses through its programs. The cost of the Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc) course would be approximately INR 67,500. It includes tuition fees and minimal academic fees. 

The cost of the Master of Veterinary Science (MVSc) course would be approximately INR 68,700 for the entire period, including tuition and exam fees. For PhD research scholars of PhD, the charge is around INR 1.16 lakhs for the whole course. 

Apart from course charges, the hostel fees in IVRI range between INR 15,000 and INR 20,000 per year. The hostel charges are moderate and help in providing improved living to the scholars.  

IVRI Admission Process 

The admission process of IVRI Bareilly begins online. The candidates need to visit the official website of IVRI first and complete the application form with all the required information. 

The candidates need to upload the essential documents, such as 10+2 mark sheets and NEET score card (for undergraduate programs), after filling out the form. Applicants should wait for the counselling dates after submitting their applications. 

The process of counselling is based on merit and includes seat allocation. It is based on ranks and reservation criteria. Lastly, the candidates who are allotted a seat have to report to the institute for verification of documents and payment of admission fees for confirmation of their admission.

For MVSc admission at IVRI, the procedure is the same except that it asks for a BVSc degree and a valid rank in the ICAR All India Competitive Examination. 

The candidates need to apply online using the admission portal of IVRI, upload academic certificates as needed, and report for counselling according to the exam rank. 

IVRI Exam 2025

The university administers entrance tests every year for admission to its courses. The test assists the university in choosing students depending on their merit, knowledge, and performance.

The IVRI entrance exam is conducted every year, usually in June or July. The registration is through online mode during April or May, and the IVRI result is provided by August. Following the result, there is counselling and verification of documents from shortlisted candidates done by the institute.

IVRI Result 2025 

Indian Veterinary Research Institute announces its result online annually. The result displays roll numbers and names of students who are eligible for admission or successfully pass the course.

The students can view their result on the official site by using their roll number or registration ID. The university publishes the result section after the assessment process is finalized.

Generally, the result comes out after a couple of weeks of the entrance examination, in August annually. Besides the general result also declares a merit list and waiting list for the following round of admission or counselling.

IVRI Placement 

The placement cell of IVRI places the students in professional positions in the field of animal science, research, and veterinary. The graduates are usually welcomed by governmental departments, animal husbandry services, research institutions, and private veterinary organisations. 

As per the latest statistics, the average package in IVRI placements was approximately INR 10.43 lakhs per annum in some years.

The institute conducts workshops, training, and counselling on a regular basis to prepare students for interview sessions and job drives.
