IIT Kanpur announced the schedule for its main Students-Undergraduate Research Graduate Excellence (SURGE 2026) program. The institute now begins its process to select candidates for the 8-week summer research internship program. The result will be announced on 23 March 2026. Afterwards, the registration window will be open from 23 March to 29 March 2026.

Registration Confirmation & Fee Payment period is 23 March to 29 March 2026.
Second Selection List (if required): 01 April 2026.
Hostel Allotment & Email ID Creation: 05 May 2026.
Programme Duration: 11 May 2026 to 10 July 2026.
The program includes participants from three main categories: IITK students, Non-IITK Indian students, and students from SAARC countries (specifically Nepal and Bhutan).
Mode of Internship: Strict offline/on-campus mode at the IIT Kanpur campus.
Stipend Provision: Selected candidates under the "Institute Funded" category will receive a stipend of INR 16,000, while "Partial Funded" candidates receive up to INR 8,000.
Exceptional research work will be eligible for prestigious recognitions, including the Dr Elizabeth and Dr Verkey Cherian Award for the best project and poster.
Selected fellows will be provided with hostel accommodation arranged by the institute, with mess and hostel charges to be borne by the participants. All selected interns must report to the Office of Outreach Activities (OOA-IITK) by 14 May 2026 to join the program
