As set by GMAC, the GMAT Exam 2025 (Focus Edition) will have three sections: Quantitative Reasoning, Verbal Reasoning, and Data Insights. Below is a thorough guide to the GMAT Exam Syllabus so that students can prepare better, from mba.com and e-gmat.com.  

Quantitative Reasoning  

  • Topics: Algebra (equations, inequalities), arithmetic (fractions, percentages, ratios), probability, set theory, permutations, combinations.

  • Weightage: 21 MCQs, 60-90 score, 45 minutes.

  • Preparation Tips: Using Manhattan Prep’s Quantitative Guide to solve a problem on the GMAT club. Work on basic-to-advanced problems, and solve with a focus on problem solving, geometry is excluded.  

Verbal Reasoning  

  • Topics: Reading comprehension (business, science passages), critical reasoning (assumption and argument analysis).  

  • Weightage: 23 MCQs, 45 minutes, 60–90 score.  

  • Preparation Tips: Read critical reasoning exercises from GMAC’s Official Guide and The Economist for comprehension. 

Data Insights  

  • Topics: Data sufficiency, multi-source reasoning, table analysis, graphic interpretation, two-part analysis.  

  • Weightage: 20 questions, 45 minutes, 60-90 score.  

  • Preparation Tips: Work on data interpretation using GMAC sample questions, data analysis with a good online calculator.

Important Aspects of GMAT Syllabus  

As of 2025, the GMAT syllabus will be adaptive based on performance for the quantitative and verbal sections. There’s no penalty for wrong answers, but questions not attempted and left unanswered will affect scoring. Section order is flexible, and candidates can mark questions, change their answers, or leave answers unchanged for up to three questions per section. The exam syllabus provides no geometry or analytical writing sections, but includes data reasoning and analytics, as well as literacy and critical thinking.  

Preparation Approach  

  • Start early and you will successfully cover all aspects of the GMAT syllabus, so plan for 3–6 months of preparation:

  • Resources: Use the GMAC Official Guide and prep materials from  Manhattan, and Yocket for 15–20 mock tests.  

  • Time Management: Allocate about 2 mins per question and take timed practice tests to improve your pacing.  

  • Invalidated claims: Spend more time on algebra or critical reasoning if you’re struggling, and utilize the GMAT Club forums.  

Mock Tests: Use the Sigma-X or IMS mocks.
